1950-1952 Prof Granville Poole

Granville Poole was the H.M. Inspector of Mines between 1909 and 1920. He inspected mines in Yorkshire Northumberland, Durham, Cumberland, Staffordshire, and Warwickshire. Poole retired from the inspectorate as a Senior Inspector.

For two years Poole was based was in the Mines Department at Home Office. He also acted as secretary to the Departmental Committee on Spontaneous Combustion.

Poole was a Professor of Mining at Leeds University. He specialized in investigation of colliery explosions. Other roles included supervisor for the Northern Coke Research Committee and supervisor for the Fuel Survey Committee for Northumberland and Durham. Poole was appointed to Chair of Mining at King's College, Newcastle-on-Tyne, from the 1st of October 1923.

Poole was the director for Shelton Iron, Steel & Coal Co. Ltd.; Cumberland Coal Co. (Whitehaven) Ltd.; Blanchland Fluormines Ltd.; Coldberry Lead Co. Ltd. He was the editor of treatise on "Haulage and Winding."

Granville Poole was appointed President of the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers between 1950 and 1952.
