Another unique feature of the building is the lecture theatre. The lecture theatre was added to the Institute buildings in 1902 and was built to the same design as the lecture theatre of the Royal Society in London.

With its perfect acoustics and intimate yet dignified atmosphere the theatre is still used today by members of the Mining Institute as well as a number of other companies, associations and societies, thus preserving a tradition observed on this site for some considerable time.

The Lecture Theatre is suitable for a talks, presentations and lectures and seats 100 in the theatre style tiered seating. Though the acoustics are superb, a PA system with hearing loop is installed with two fixed microphones and one wireless microphone for the speaker.

The hire cost does not include the hire of any audio visual equipment. However at an additional charge we can provide a dedicated computer setup in the lecture theatre which includes audio and video (projector) support with tele-presence capabilities with webcasting if required. We also have the ability to record presentations with audio.

We can provide catering for your function in the library if required, please let us know at the time of booking.
