Indented covenanted and agreed upon ye 27th December 1687 between Margaret Conyers of South Biddisk in the County of Durham widow on ye one part and John Watters of Chester [le Street] in ye same County, Yeoman, on the other part as followeth. The said John Watters doth covenant and promise to work and drive of the remainder of the drift lately wrought at Boulby in ye Hookwirks? Pitt It ran under ye bottom of ye pit their, as high and as wide as may be useful to carry rocks in barrows or ronesy? Wood up to ye pit. And also doth covenant and promise to boore ye pit their into ye said drift. And also doth covenant and promise to sink ye said drift into ye said drift 7 quarters wide, he? Finding for all ye said work of drift booreing at pitt, all booreing geer, randles [handles?] , sharping, and mending of workgeare and finish up ye said works at or before midsummer day next. Ye said Margaret Conyers doth covenant and promise to pay for ye working of ye said drift to John Watters or his assigns 15 shillings a yard for booreing ye pitt and ye first 5 fathom 5 shillings a fathom; for ye next 5 fathom 10 shillings a fathom; for all ye rest 15 shillings a fathom: And likewise for sinking ye pitt 30 shillings a fathom, for ye depth more or less. And also doth covenant to find them all wood, rails, and ropes mindful for ye work and pay him every month sixteen pence a day for all ye sinkers he employs in ye said work, and pay him ye remainder of ye wages not later than? 20 days after ye said works are finished.
