Car Parking
On-street parking is available on Forth Street and Westgate Road with coin operated parking meters. You can also pay for parking by phone and instructions appear on signage near the parking spaces. The Stephenson Quarter Car park is located 5 minutes walk away. Please be aware that there is a one-way system surrounding the building. All of the on-street parking on Westgate Road is located prior to the entrance to the building on the one-way system.
Public Transport Access Routes and Drop Off Points
Mainline and Regional Rail Services: The Mining Institute is located approximately 2 minutes walk (125 metres) away from Newcastle Central Station. To reach us, turn right out of the front of the Station and walk straight along past the Metro and Royal Station Hotel. The nearest exit is Neville Street and signed within the station.

Bus: A large number of buses stop very close by at Central Station.
Taxi: There is a taxi rank located immediately in front of the building on Orchard Street and another near the entrance to Central Station. Taxis are generally plentiful in the area.
Cycling: A bicycle rack is located immediately next to the front door on Orchard Street. Cyclists can bring bags inside the building for safe storage throughout their visit.
The nearest drop-off point by taxi is on Westgate Road. For coaches, there is a drop off point in a delivery bay on Westgate Road just before Sleepers Hotel, and another at the Castle Keep.
Building Entrance
The North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers is located at Neville Hall, Westgate Road, Newcastle upon Tyne.
There is a new accessible entrance on Orchard Street with a platform lift as an alternative to the four internal steps (with handrail.) All rooms within Neville Hall now have level access following the refurbishment. There are also two accessible toilets.

We welcome individuals and groups and can provide free group tours and talks on a variety of subjects. We welcome school visits and can tailor visits to meet the needs of the curriculum and provide learning resources.
